Surviving the extraction phase in Marathon’s Cryo Archive is a high-stakes endeavor where a single mistake can cost your team its most valuable gear. Unlike the relatively simple exits found in the Complex, this endgame environment is built around a rigorous Security Clearance system that players must navigate with total precision. Because the process is notably intricate – involving specific terminal interactions and tight timers – understanding these core mechanics is essential for anyone hoping to secure their hard-earned loot.

Essential extraction protocols for the Cryo Archive
To facilitate a safe departure from the Archive, players must execute a specific series of tactical maneuvers to trigger the exit sequence.
- Elevate your Security Clearance to at least Level 3. This requires your squad to scavenge for Security Tags and compromise Security Monitors throughout the map. Without this specific clearance level, you are effectively barred from leaving the facility.
- Search for a functional Exfil Station. These terminals are identified by an orange icon featuring a black arrow and are usually found near the map’s central Control hub. Activating a Scanner is the most reliable way to help find them quickly in the heat of battle.
- Trigger the station to mark a Secret Exfil beacon. This exit point is private to your team and typically appears at the far end of one of the archive’s wings. It is often a very long distance from the station you just activated.
- Reach the beacon before the 210-second countdown expires. You have exactly three and a half minutes to navigate to the exit point. Success ensures you keep your top-tier loot – which is often a prerequisite for subsequent high-level missions.
The layout of the Cryo Archive is essentially a complex labyrinth – making the journey to the beacon a trial of navigation as much as survival. You must move immediately once the sequence is initiated, as getting lost in the corridors is a common cause of failure. If your team fails to reach the beacon within the allotted time, you will be forced to locate an entirely different Exfil Station to start the process over again.

A hidden Final Exfil exists as a desperate last resort for those who lack the required clearance or run out of time. This beacon is available for only sixty seconds after the main match timer expires and remains invisible on your tactical map. Finding it is a matter of pure chance and proximity. Consequently, using the standard extraction method well in advance is effectively mandatory to avoid the total loss of your equipment and progress.
