Sony has surprised the gaming community by issuing unexpected refunds to players of the recently closed Highguard. The company is reportedly compensating microtransactions automatically – without any formal requests. According to Notebookcheck – this wave of returns is currently limited to the PlayStation platform.
The payouts were first identified via a now-deleted Reddit post. While many were shocked by this generosity – the move sparked debate – with some arguing skin buyers deserve no compensation. Currently – no similar activity has been reported on Steam or Xbox.
“To be honest – I didn’t care about the refund. I liked the game and was happy to support it – but if you were looking for a refund – they are sending them out – wrote the author of the deleted post.”
Servers officially shut down on March 12 – with mass refunds starting around March 17. This process covers a wide range of content – including battle passes and various cosmetic items.

Highguard lasted only six weeks – a collapse similar to Concord. Despite a peak of 100,000 players – the numbers plummeted and never recovered. Studio Wildlight released a final patch before cutting staff to 20 – who were also eventually dismissed.
