Lockpicking in the Gothic Remake can be an absolute nightmare. When Fingers tasks you with stealing Scatty’s ring at the start of the “A Ring for Fingers” quest, many might hesitate. However, earning the favor of the Shadows is crucial if you want to align with the Old Camp – one of the game’s three major factions.
To save you from wasting countless pickaxes in pure frustration, a precise method exists to bypass this lock. Following a specific sequence makes the heist surprisingly straightforward.
Unlocking sequence and location for Scatty’s chest
Scatty’s hut is positioned directly to the bottom left from where you speak with Fingers. You can easily identify the building by the long red flag hanging left of the door, weapons displayed on the wall, and an outside notice board. The ideal opportunity to strike occurs in the morning when he leaves for the arena.
The target chest sits right in front of you upon entering. It is highly recommended to save your game prior to the attempt. This precaution ensures you can reload if you run out of lockpicks, manipulating the plates – numbered front to back – in a specific order.

Alongside the prize, the chest contains various junk, 16 ore nuggets, and a pickaxe. The tool is well worth grabbing if you do not already own one – especially since ore can be mined in the Old Mine.
