GOG Restores Original Metro Titles Through Its Preservation Initiative

Following the high – profile announcement of Metro 2039 by Ukrainian developer 4A Games last April, interest in the post – apocalyptic franchise has surged. To ensure a smooth entry for those unfamiliar with the series’ dark tunnels, GOG has officially integrated the first two chapters into its digital storefront.

Both Metro 2033 (released in 2010) and the 2013 Metro: Last Light Complete Edition are now centerpieces of the GOG Preservation Program. This initiative aims to maintain the legacy of classic titles by removing the need for third – party software or intrusive services. It is important to note that these are the original versions of the games, rather than the later Redux remasters.

Technical refinements are at the heart of this release. Specialists optimized the titles for Windows 10 and 11, unlocking frame rates and fixing bugs. True to the platform’s philosophy, the games are DRM – free and ready for any storage media.

While the first game explores factional wars in the Moscow metro, Last Light introduces a mysterious telepathic race. With the launch of Metro 2039 still at least half a year away, this GOG update provides the perfect window to experience the series from its humble beginnings.
