Dying Light: The Beast – a New Story of Old Hero
Good news for Dying Light fans! During Gamescom 2024 Techland unexpectedly presented a whole new, terrifying chapter in their long-lasting and fan-favorite saga. Meet “Dying Light: The Beast” – an adrenaline-stoking, life-threatening, and life-altering action game about the well-known protagonist of the first game in the franchise. Once again he has to face hordes of zombies and this encounter will be more than a nostalgic memory lane.
More Than DLC
At first, “Dying Light: The Beast” was meant to be a DLC for “Dying Light 2”. But eventually, this DLC turned into something bigger. We should expect a new plot twist for Kyle, cementing what many players suspected was the true ending of “Dying Light: The Following”. Forget about the nuclear devastation, Techland has decided to focus on the narrative with the personal infection. Now, players get to walk down a new road full of new challenges and fears.
The game trailer opens with soldiers tip-toeing around what appears to be a dark, creepy forest—clearly on a manhunt. It’s thick with tension. Then all hell breaks loose – just enough of a creature from the shadows to take them down one by one. The screen flashes as a city sunrise blinks in, and Kyle Crane sits and gazes out one bloodshot eye. Is Kyle the monster creeping out from the shadows? It sure looks that way. The subtext here is chilling – Kyle might have transformed into a sentient Volatile, a sane super-zombie.
What Is in the Story?
The reveal of Crane’s return is more than just a nod to the fans of the first game in the series. It cements a new storyline with a great narrative. The game takes place about 10 years after “Dying Light: The Following”. Kyle is going to visit a new location called Castor Woods. Its rural setting is quite dangerous, with mysterious creatures to hidden threats lurking behind every tree. The classic parkour is back, and so is the brutal combat.
But there is a plot twist: now Kyle can partially have a zombie DNA that gives him superhuman abilities while he fights off the undead. This resembles the main protagonist of the second game. The fans on Reddit are already excited about the perspective of playing as “The Beast”.
Techland confirmed – “Dying Light: The Beast” will be available for free for all the owners of the “Dying Light 2: Stay Human – Ultimate Edition”. Just like the revamped version of Red Dead Redemption, this new chapter in the series can be bought on multiple platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
