A dedicated Steam page has officially surfaced for DarkStone Restoration, marking the return of the 1999 action/RPG classic to modern computer systems. Original director and producer Paul Cuisset is leading the development of this anticipated revival, ensuring the project remains faithful to its roots.
“Darkstone Restoration is now available on Steam.
After many years, I have the opportunity to personally return to Darkstone and lead its restoration for modern PCs.
This project aims to preserve the spirit of the original game while improving compatibility, stability, readability, and overall comfort for today’s players.
For me, it is also the continuation of a story that never truly felt finished.” – wrote the developer on LinkedIn.

Created by the French studio Delphine Software International, the original Darkstone debuted on Windows in the summer of 1999. Although it faced mixed reviews and frequent comparisons to Diablo, the title achieved solid sales – eventually earning multiple award nominations by the end of its release year.
The game later expanded to the PlayStation in 2001 and reached mobile platforms like iOS and Android in 2014. These ports were also developed with Cuisset’s direct participation, ensuring the franchise’s unique identity lived on across several generations of gaming hardware.

DarkStone Restoration is currently planned for an Early Access release to allow for comprehensive polishing. This strategy enables the development team to refine the experience based on direct feedback and impressions from the gaming community.
Beyond the core updates, the project may include modernized networking features and a fresh quest editor built upon the original tools. However, these additions remain dependent on the overall progress of development and the level of engagement from the player base.
Fans also hope the developers will restore or re – record the iconic single “The Darkstone Will Shine” by French singer Audren. This atmospheric track remains a vital and beloved part of the game’s original 1999 identity.
